Lantau
Island is located northwest of Hong Kong Island. Hong
Kong's new airport was built on the island just a few
years ago. One sunday afternoon dreamer, anneli, la
seine, and I all went Lantau Island to see the the largest
Buddha in the world (measures 34 meters tall). It is
a know tourist spot, but instead of finding tourist
from other countries I found mostly Chinese. Perhaps
they were from mainland China, the New Territories,
or even Hong Kong.
It
is like the statue of Liberty in a sense: If you ask
a local New Yorker if the visited the statue of Liberty,
they will probably say no. So maybe the were all locals
from Hong Kong Island who woke up that day and said
tothemselves: "-ah, nothing to do today.. ... maybe
I should finally go and see that "Big Buddha".
